The Holy Spirit…Here…Now

“Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the Lord: Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn; look to Abraham, your father, and to Sarah, who gave you birth. When I called him he was only one man, and I blessed him and made him many. The Lord will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.”—Isaiah 51:1-3 NIV

In today’s scripture we have the Lord speaking through the Prophet Isaiah to the people of Israel. I believe the Old Testament prophets knew the Spirit of the Lord and leaned on Him when they were prophesying. Peter was empowered by the Holy Spirit in much the same way as Isaiah was empowered by the Spirit of the Lord. The assurance that we have is that Jesus Christ promised we who believe in Him will be empowered by the Holy Spirit even today. When we open ourselves up the Holy Spirit’s power we will be given the words to use to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others and use the gifts that God has given us.

Come, Holy Spirit, Come…Amen.
